In the production of bacterial cellulose through a static method, the yield factor Yp/s is affected by the concentration of the initial glucose and the fermentation time. Low concentrations give Yp/s high values at the beginning of the fermentation, where high concentrations require long times to achieve comparative values. The surface area increases the cellulose production; however, there is a value of interfacial area to liquid volume relationship that gives the greater values of cellulose per unit area. There is a linear relationship between the film relative height defined as (wet film height/liquid height) and the interfacial area per medium unit volume. For the film relative height limit (wet film height = liquid height) corresponds the theoretical value 1.1 cm-1, but the practicallimit determined was ca. 0.8 cm-1.
