This article discusses aspects in the fi eld of education and university in North and Latin America in the colonial years, and the late nineteen than early twentieth century, especially in countries like Argentina, Chile, Brazil and The Colombia’s Case, that requires special consideration based on the ideological, political and philosophical assumptions underlying the offi cial education in Colombia, and the secular and liberal responses to such considerations on colonial, republican and constitutional orders. It is concluded that in the formation of the American republics, there are similar phenomena in terms of war facts, declarations of independence, the formation of creole elites to impose their liberal speeches in most of the time and education systems assuming that it will serve to establish independent and prosperous republics.
