The traditional climatic models recognize the Amazon jungles as being responsible for recycling more than 50% of the precipitation of their basin because of the evapo-transpiration process and it is estimated that loss of its forest mass may be between 15% and 20%. A new discussion about the physics and thermodynamics responsible for rain formation was suggested by the scientists at Saint Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute (Russia). They suggest that this deforestation may lead unavoidably to the desertification of the west region of the Amazon basin. This would entail environmental, political and social consequences not only for Colombia but for the countries which share the basin. This article intends to illustrate this phenomenon and make statements which will contribute to redefine the conservation policies and research projects
