A taxonomic treatment of the desmids (Chorophyceae) from seventeen paramo lagoons, located on the Central and Eastern Colombian cordilleras is presented. One hundred five desmid taxa were recorded. Of these taxa, forty-three resulted new reports for Colombia, belonging mainly to the genera Staurastrum, Closterium, Cosmarium and Staurodesmus. Keys for the whole group and for every genus were elaborated.
