La dermatomiositis es una enfermedad inflamatoria idiopatica del musculo y de la piel, que esta incluida dentro del grupo de las miopatias inflamatorias adquiridas, las cuales son la principal causa de debilidad musculo esqueletica adquirida y reversible con un tratamiento adecuado. La forma Juvenil de esta entidad representa la miopatia inflamatoria mas frecuente en el paciente pediatrico. Sin embargo, es un trastorno raro, con una tasa de incidencia de 2,5 a 4,1 casos por cada millon de ninos por ano en los Estados Unidos. El 20 % del total de casos de dermatomiositis es encontrado en pacientes menores de 15 anos, los casos restantes se presentan en adultos mayores. Se presenta con mayor frecuencia en el sexo femenino con una relacion 2:1 y no hay una mayor predileccion por la raza negra a diferencia de como se describe en otras enfermedades inflamatorias sistemicas. En este trabajo reportamos el caso de un nino de 13 anos de edad y el de una nina de 6 anos, ambos de piel oscura y con cuadro clinico tipico de dermatomiositis juvenil. SUMMARY Dermatomiositis is an idiopathic inflammatory disease of the muscle and the skin, that is included in the group of the inflammatory acquired miopathies, which are the main reason of acquired and reversible muscle skeletal weakness with a suitable treatment. The juvenile form of this entity represents the most frequent inflammatory miopathy in the pediatric patient. Nevertheless, it is a rare disorder, with an incidence from 2,5 to 4,1 cases by every million children by year in the United States. 20 % of the entire cases are found in patients younger than 15 years old, the remaining cases appear in adults. It appears with major frequency in the females with a 2:1 relation and there is no a major predilection for the black race unlike how it is described in other systemic inflammatory diseases. In this paper we report the case of a 13 year old boy and the one of a 6 year old girl, both of dark skin and with Juvenile Dermatomiositis typical clinical presentation.
