A new species of Phragmotheca (Bombacaceae) is described and illustrated. This represents the first record of this genus in premontane forest (subandean belt) and is also the first locality for Phragmotheca in the Eastern Cordillera of Colombia. The genus was previously known only from the Choco biogeographic region and the Amazonian lowlands.
