This paper is a review and theoretical reflection of the conception of psychosexual development from a personal psychoanalytical perspective that is Freudian metapsychology, which also includes some developments proposed by Arcila Arango. It synthesizes and describes psychosexual development from the viewpoint of Freudian psychoanalysis, such as the fundamental elements of the process, including the inevitable vicissitudes of repression, finishing with the presentation of an approach to Freudian psychoanalysis as an intervention for ‘unlocking’ development and moving towards adult genital sexuality. Also proposed is the possibility of observing the effects of psychotherapeutic interventions by means of four key elements that occur in human sexuality.
