Pollen's viability in Solanum tuberosum ssp. andigena cultivars has been evaluated, mainly characterized by having late blight resistance (Phytophthora infestans) and precocity. The materials were originally referenced like 658, 678, 275, 250, 215 and 330, and their identification names are: Monserrate, Lupa, Bogotana, NN, Ojona, y Manpuerra, respectively. Pollen from these materials was collected in order to evaluate viability. Stain and in vitro germination methods were used. Grains completely stained which showed a pollinic tube extension were considered as fertile grains. A count on the number of feasible grains was made for both methods, establishing in this way the percentage ofpollen viability. In order to evaluate late blight resistance, crossing ofvarieties was carried out, noticing fruit formation. New plants were obtained from seed of these crossings, which were inoculated with Phytophthora infestans and classified as tolerant, half tolerant and susceptible plants. Final results showed the utility of new plants as new varieties, because they seem to be better than Monserrate which have horizontal resistance.
