This article studies the internation- alization of Colombia’s internal conflict. To get the necessary in- formation, the main researcher and his assistants turned to documental sources and to interviews with academicians and political lead- ers of different political leanings. Books, journals and magazines published during the time being studied were consulted. In this re- search basically tree methods were used: the historic, descriptive and comparative. The most important conclusions that were reached were 1) the United States has inter- vened in Colombia militarily since 1939; 2) the so-called “Democratic Security” and the Patriotic Act are the continuation of the Laso Plan tried out in 1964 with Operation Marquetalia; 3) as of the ‘90s in the 20th century, the international community began to reject war and become concerned about peace in Colombia; 4) the peace process between Pastrana and FARC broke down. Total war started and the internationalization of the conflict began to generate a serious crisis in the region.
