Objective: We aim was to characterize the student population by means of three kinds of profile: academic, sociodemographic and health of three universities from south west colombian.Methods: This is a descriptivestudy of cross sectional in a population of 635 students with a sample of 237 subjects. The data analysis was performed by the spss-19 statistical program. Results: In the population studied, the femenine sex was predominant. The most students consider themselves crossbred and the 90% of them are singles. The most belong to middle socioeconomic tiery the economic resources to pay the academic expenses come from their family. With regard to academic profile, we found that the 70% of students consider that the academic load is adecuate and they suggest to expand the teaching staff to improve the practices. In relation to health conditions,less than 15% of students suffer some disease, although they assert that it does not affecttheir academic performance. Conclusion: Some significant differences were found of sociodemographic and academic type that could be related with the institution, geographic area, studentprovenance, the family kind and economic income.
