Resumen. El Carnaval de Barranquilla, fi esta popular del Caribe colombiano, se ha convertido en veta inagotable para la inspiracion de artistas, cineastas, escritores y musicos, al igual que tema de estudio para antropologos, historiadores, periodistas y sociologos. La investigacion revisa y recopila los documentales realizados que tienen por tema las fi estas populares, tratando de reconstruir una historia del patrimonio audiovisual sobre las carnestolendas. Parte de textos y publicaciones de prensa, hace un recorrido por algunos de los documentales realizados —proponiendo, por lo que se sabe hasta ahora, que la produccion filmica sobre los carnavales de Barranquilla comenzo en 1914 con el primer documental producido en Colombia— y continua su inventario critico hasta llegar al trabajo presentado ante la UNESCO para ilustrar su candidatura como “Obra maestra del patrimonio oral e inmaterial de la humanidad”. Abstract . The Carnival of Barranquilla, traditional festival in the Colombian Caribbean, has become a source of inspiration for artists, fi lm makers, writers, and musicians, as well as the subject of numerous studies by anthropologists, historians, journalists, and sociologists. This research reviews and compiles fi lm documentaries that feature this carnival with the specifi c goal of reconstructing a history of the audiovisual heritage regarding the celebrants. The study starts with press releases and publications, and examines some of the documentaries —suggesting, based on the information available, that the film record of the Carnival of Barranquilla began in 1914 with the fi rst documentary produced in Colombia—and continues compiling its critical inventory up to the work presented to become part of the World Inmaterial Heritage List of Cultural Resources declared by UNESCO in 2003.
