An experiment was carried out taken as sample 4 female progenitors (C1616-75, Pomex72, CP52-43 y Co281). These were intercrossing wiht five male progenitors, (Ja60-5, C334-64, Co421, POJ2878 y My54129). The showed up a diferent behabiourin their resistance capacity to smut. The results shower thet the selection of progenitors and their combination schould bebased in their general combiningability due to the high additive effect produced when transmitting the resistance to smut. It is suggested to use remarpable families and progenitors in crossing programs. It was also proved the ralation as to the degree of resistance between the progenitor and its descend.
