The article shows the historical and legal evolution of the Field of Aesthetic and Artistic education in formal Colombian education. This is done beginning from General Francisco de Paula Santander's term of office in 1832, up to 1994 when aesthetic and artistic education was included in Ley General de Educacion (Education General Law). In the same way, it emphasizes the importance of the inclusion of the Area as an essential field in the Colombian curriculum and invites readers to introduce methodological innovations in the teaching of this field.
