The Gulf of Uraba is an strategic littoral region for Colombia. The coastal zone role on infrastructure and development planning is a priority and should be considered and analyzed in detail. The erosion – sedimentation processes in the gulf have been recognized since several decades ago as one of the central axes of the environmental problems there. This work presents an analysis of the physical complexity of the problem through an integration of the present knowledge and new data collected during the Oceanographic Cruise Uraba 1. The goal is to obtain an integrated vision of the coastal processes and the transport dynamics in the gulf. Towards the north region erosion is dominant with different connotations on the east and western flanks. Dominant littoral drift direction doesn’t allow sand sediments from Atrato river to be distributed towards these coasts, while they are accumulated at the south region. There are several issues about sediment dispersion and accumulation that require further studies, among these, sedimentation of Colombia Bay, which is vital for the regional product transport.
