En este trabajo el autor da cuenta de uno de los problemas seculares que mas ha afectado la educacion colombiana, como efecto es la inasistencia escolar. Para ello efectua un estudio de caso del Magdalena durante el periodo federal, tiempo en el cual el llamado liberalismo radical asumio el poder del Estado y desde alli agencio una serie de reformas que tenian como proposito la modernizacion del pais en lo que se refiere a las instituciones politicas, la educacion y la economia entre otros aspectos, lo que significaba romper con las viejas estructuras coloniales que hasta mediados del siglo XIX aun estaban presentes en la sociedad colombiana.Palabras Clave: Inasistencia escolar, federalismo, educacion, siglo XIX.AbstractOn this work the author gives an account of one the most recurrent problems that education has had in Colombia: the school dropout. To this end he conducts a study case of the Magdalena department during the federal period, a time in which the radical liberalism came to power and began a series of reforms destined to modernized the region by changing the political institutions, education and the economy. These changes were designed to displace the old colonial structures that in the middle of the XIX century continue to be predominant in Colombian society.Key Words: School dropout, federalism, education, XIX century.
