On December 6th, 1987, an Impressive landslide took place in the microbasln of Zanjon del Salitre, located within the Municipio of Paz de Rio In Boyaca. Such a big landslide obstructed two roads, destroyed properties - and also threatened to dam the Rio Soapaga, one of the tributaries of the large Chicamocha river, creating a potencial tragedy over the little town located 1 km down the river. The 3 km long and 400 m wide landslide was caused by the iron mineral explotation around the area. This is a typical historic case teaching that a careless mining operation, could easily be converted into a tremendous urban disaster. The above land motion was studied from the geological and geomorphological points of view. Special emphasis on the causes, mechanisms to prevent these land movements, and consequences is made for the human activities. As a contribution to prevent this kind of potencial landslides a geotechnical model questionarie is submitted for consideration.
