The following is a partial result of the research project “Women and Political Participation.” It intends to introduce some historical and legal reasons to understand female citizenship as a political, historical and cultural category in permanent construction. The methodology used is documentary analysis; it develops the following contents: Female Citizenship and full citizenship as a political horizon, and the background of the social and legal status of women in Colombia, as a base to propose a reflection on the participation of women in traditional spaces such as public institutions and political parties, and in nontraditional areas such as women’s organizations and women’s social movement and feminist movement.
