To date, very few publications can be found about the use of cable systems for the transportation of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) in oil palm plantations. For the preparation of this document, only five papers were found, four of which are from Malaysia and one from Costa Rica. No papers on this subject have been published in Colombia. However, that does not mean that oil palm companies do not use that system as an alternative to support the harvesting and gathering of fruit, especially considering that this tool allows the fruit to be transported with a smaller investment in road construction and maintenance. This article aims to present a literature review on the use of overhead cables by international oil palm companies as an alternative harvest transportation system, and to present the documentation on the use of this cable system in several plantations in the Northern Zone of Colombia.
