The following attempts to bring to the discussion about the possibility and meaning of the humanities in the current context. Aims to become an input for further reflection on the role of humanities in education, particularly in higher education, so the article presents from the prominence they have at this time a humanistic reflection that includes five trends and challenges encountered as reading macrocontextual that has given us the twentieth century, and relief, the joint-construction of philosophy, religion and science, for the development of an alternative proposal for humanity. As a first approach reflective of the problem, the text will serve as a “pretext” for discussion on the theme, very relevant in this time of great change within the historical continuity and multiplicity of world views of reality.
