The Telecommunications and Signals Research Group of the Electronics Engineering Program at Universidad del Norte started a project, known as Wireless IP, in which a laptop could have access to the wired computer network of the University using a wireless communication link, based in IEEE standard 802.11b. The hardware part of the Wireless IP project was divided in three modules developed by three groups in an independent way: Ethernet/WIP Data Link Interface, Baseband Modem and RF and Power. This article describes the design, operation and implementation of the Ethernet/WIP Interface and its interconnection with the other modules. The results of connecting a computer to a wired network through the Interface are also given. All tests were done using wired connections, emulating functions performed by the rest of the groups.
