This study evaluated the use of the magazine picture collage as an instrument to assess thought organization. A sample of 30 schizophrenic patients and a control group were selected; the collage was administered to them. A group of 6 professional experts was asked to score the collages according to nine categories (title, main theme, balance, localization, gluing, number of cuttings, color of construction paper, reaction time, and performing time). The statistical tools used were One-Way-Analysis of Variance and Discriminan Analysis. Results indicate that six out of nine categories discriminated significantly between the two groups. There was a higher level of agreement among judges when scoring collages of patients (83.3%) than control collages (67.9%). Future research should investigate validity of the categories and its clinical use.
