The transformation of a residue product, such as paper cups for hot drinks, into a polymeric composite material, requires for the analysis of the properties of the initial raw materials and the processes that can be achieved with the available resources. Through the selection of experimental procedures, relevant study cases, and international norms that provide a sufficient experimental framework, the composite material’s characterization is realized so that the physical properties, such as density, water absorption, ignition, elasticity, resistance to impact and hardness can be determined. All tests are carried out within an academic experimental environment, while, at the same time, leaning on not only the technological tools available in the Universidad EAN’s laboratories, but also on theories provided by the science and materials fields
