The patterns and initial mechanisms of regeneration-succession in paramos after fire disturbance were studied. The model of species life histories was used to form groups with similar vital attributes (discussed by Noble & Slatyer 1980), and lo establish species replacement patterns that, in conjuntion with the mechanisms of regeneration-succession, constitute a conceptual model explaining the most important causal factors that determine succession in ecosystems disturbed by fire such as Andean paramos.
