Recent theories of brain function propose brain synchronization as a fundamental mechanism governing different aspects of behavior such as motor activity, perception and cognition. In addition research indicates that different neurologic and psychiatric disorders are associated with abnormal brain synchronization. In a recent study, it was used transcranial stimulation as a tool to demonstrate, for the first time, that the relationship between brain synchronization and cognitive tasks is not an epiphenomenon but the cause. The results of this exciting work open the possibility of brain synchronization restoration trough non-invasive brain stimulation in favor of therapeutic treatments in patients with neurological and psychiatric pathologies.
