Prison Riots are social and political phenomenon that has been characterized as violent, with terrible consequences to prisoners, staff administration, prison officers and infrastructure (dead, wounded and hostages people). In this way, this research pretends to contribute in the field of prison sociology and political science, trying to answer the question: which are the causal factors that explain prison riots in Colombia. Therefore, and following the Theoretical frameworks state-centered theory of revolution, this study will review the most important cases of prison riots in Colombia from 1990 to 2012, with the aim to understand what are factors contribute and not contribute to the development of prison riots in Colombia. In order to achieve this goal, we are going to use the comparative method like the best path to understand in a holistic way this phenomenon.
