Finance and Gender in Colombia: The Case of World Woman Bank in Cali

Acceso Cerrado

Abstract:

The purpose of this paper is to describe Microcredit, specifically the case for Cali's World Women Bank. This document has been structured on the following lines: History of Microcredit emphasizing on its definition; then, its development in Colombia; it describes how it was originally believed an exclusive responsibility of the public sector, and how, as time passes, the private sector (banks and NGOs) has been playing an increasing rol. Government has been crucial in Microcredit's history, but more as regulator than anything else. The document then focuses on Cali's World Women Bank, it's history, process and indicators. Finally, conclusions highlight the challenge faced by microfinancial institutions when it comes to promote and enhance Microcredit.
