The case of a patient with the diagnosis of cutaneous anthrax is presented. The patient accidentally injured himself with plant material. Characteristics of the lesion led to the clinical suspicion. Gram stain of the pathological material showed gram positive rods with the characteristic morphology of the genera Bacillus accompanied by gram positive cocci. Cultures allowed the recovery of colonies Identified as Bacillus anthracis and S. aureus. Early treatment led to resolution of the original lesion. Aspects related to clinical, epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of anthrax are discussed.
