Purpose: to identify the cognitive distortions associated with the Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) in adults in the city of Medellin, (Colombia). Method: Cross-sectional study. Sample: n = 147: 36 cases (with GAD indicators) and 111 controls (without GAD indicators). Instrument: Diagnostic Instrument GAD-Q IV: Generalized Anxiety Questionnaire (Newman 2002), Inventario de Pensamientos Automaticos IPA (Ruiz y Lujan, 1991). Findings: significant differences were found in all cognitive distortions evaluated, except in polarized thinking and personalization.
