Resumen Este trabajo se concentra en el uso de la literatura como fuente para el quehacer del historiador y pretende dar algunos visos sobre la determinante importancia de esta para la comprension de las mentalidades, representaciones e imaginarios de los diferentes periodos. Ademas de estudiar la influencia del lenguaje en la construccion y deconstruccion de mitos y representaciones que se complementen en torno a una idea. Esto se coloca a prueba con dos casos particulares, el primero, Policarpa Salavarrieta, donde busca comparar las representaciones graficas y escritas de dos momentos de la historia colombiana, alrededor de la heroina, y la significacion e intervencion que se ejerce sobre ellas. El segundo, trata sobre el proyecto de ciudadano que se propone en Medellin para los anos 30’s del siglo xx, estudiando un poco de las contradicciones discursivas que construyen el ideal de ciudadano del mundo en la emergente urbe. Finalmente, con este trabajo se propone un dialogo entre las imagenes y las letras, como constructores de nacion, memorias, ciudadanias e identidades; buscando desde un icono que los medios han puesto de moda y terminando en un estudio de caso a traves de la construccion de UNA identidad urbana en Medellin. Abstract This paper focuses on the use of literature as a source for the historian’s task and attempts to give some outlines on the decisive importance of this for understanding attitudes, representations and imaginaries of different periods. Besides, it studies the influence of language in the construction and deconstruction of myths and representations that complement around an idea. This is proved with two particular cases; the first one is Policarpa Salavarrieta, where it seeks to compare the graphic and written representations of two moments of Colombian history, around the Heroin, and the meaning and action that is exerted on them. The second project deals with the citizen proposed in Medellin for the 30’s of the twentieth century, giving a brief study of the discursive contradictions than construct the ideal citizen in the emerging city. Finally, this paper proposes a dialogue between images and letters, as nation builders, memories, citizenship and identity, looking from an icon that the Media has become fashionable and ending with a case study through the construction of urban identity in Medellin.
