This article collects some aspects of a theoretical framework and presents the categories that have been emerging from the literature review for the current research project, entitled as “State of the art of the virtual education in Risaralda.” This text deals with the concepts of the XXI century society, collective intelligence and educational uses of ICT. It also describes the relationship between the descriptive categories, the research problem, the objectives of the project and the position of the authors regarding the subject.
