This article makes a prelirninary historiographical balance about the colonial period´s medicine in Colombia. Based on the analysis of a representative portion of the books published about this issue I consider, first, a group of questions whose answers enlightened some of the most notorious characteristics of this research subject: who wrote history of the medicine in Colombia, how this issue had developed in the time and in what forms the colonial period have been saw in the Colombian history of medicine. In second place, trough the specific analysis of some specially representative texts I make an initial overview of the principal tendencies in the writing of the colonial medicine's history in Colombia.
