The following article presents an approach of the collective security concept and its importance in creation of NATO as an security organization in regard to threats against the West. This article presents how was the development of NATO and its importance in the international system through Wilson’s idealistic thinking. Simultaneously it occurs an approximation of its role in the current international context after the fall of Berlin Wall that caused the end of Cold War and the bipolarity in international relations.
