Soil fungal communities from two natural paramo vegetation types, Calamagrostis effusa pajonal (grassland) and Gynoxys fuliginosaforest located at 3600 m were investigated. Fungi in active mycelium stage from organic and mineral particles were obtained by the soil washing isolation technique. 1613 isolates from 600 particles, most from organic particles, were obtained. 62 species, belonging to 9 families and 36 genera, were identified. Species of Mortierella and Fusarium were dominant in grassland and forest vegetation respectively. The differences in fungal community composition are related to the vegetation and soil types.
