In 1992, an experiment was carried out to establish the action of the polyamines (PA) putrescine (Put), spermidine (Spd) and spermine (Spm) in the reversion of frost damage (3 hr at -1oC) in Solanum phureja Juz. et Buk. (papa criolla cv. Yema de Huevo). PA treatments reverted damage and potato plants reached a higher yield of tuber biomass, compared with controls. The best treatment was Spm 50 μ M, with a yield of 9,85 ton/ ha,similar to that obtained under non-frost conditions, while control potato plants produced just 5,42 ton/ha. It seems that Spm effect was obtained through bud resprouting and foliage protection.
