This paper is an overview of the current situation of the research groups of the Escuela Interamericana de Bibliotecologia, seen from four perspectives: (1) the educational level of the researchers; (2) the production of new knowledge; (3) educational background in research, and (4) social appropriation of knowledge; encoded into the structure and policies of the Colombian National System for Science, Technology, and Innovation. Finally, we undertake a general evaluation of the goals and outlook for research in the School, especially in the design of research programs and the strengthening and development of the research groups.
