ABSTRACT The main purpose of this paper is to highlight the possible relationship between revolutionary democracy originated in the Reformation and the Latin American neoconstitutionalism. Its main objectives are: a) examine the Reformation in order to establish the relationship between it and the French Revolution b) analyze the importance of the ideology of the far left in the French Revolution, and c) assess the common foundations of Latin American neoconstitutionalism and the revolutionary democracy rooted in both the Reformation and the French Revolution. The methodology is exploratory and aims at primary and secondary documentary sources. The findings tend to demonstrate the ideological and theological foundations of Latin American neoconstitutionalism. RESUMEN El proposito principal de este trabajo es destacar la posible relacion entre la democracia revolucionaria originada en la Reforma religiosa y el neoconstitucionalismo latinoamericano. Sus principales objetivos son: a) examinar la Reforma religiosa a fin de establecer la relacion entre esta y la Revolucion Francesa; b) analizar la importancia de la ideologia de la extrema izquierda en la Revolucion Francesa, y c) evaluar los fundamentos comunes del neoconstitucionalismo latinoamericano y la democracia revolucionaria enraizada tanto en la Reforma como en la Revolucion Francesa. La metodologia es exploratoria y tiene por objeto las fuentes documentales primarias y secundarias. Las conclusiones tienden a demostrar los fundamentos ideologicos y teologicos del neoconstitucionalismo latinoamericano.
