Colombian societies present bigger consolidation problems in the first years of its creation. This paper analyses the vital horizon of companies during the 1999-2004 period. The survival probability and the risk levels of the Colombian societies are calculated parting from a duration model estimation. Life cycle, market concentration and the industry s technological regime as survival scenarios for new societies are particularly analyzed. It was found that Colombian societies faced greater barriers during the 1994-2004 period when the sector chosen for operation was already in a mature state of its life cycle.
