El presente estudio, de caracter exploratorio, busca ilustrar la particularidad de un grupo de eje cutivas colombianas estudiadas, puesto que Colombia fue senalado como el pais con la mayor proporcion de mujeres en posiciones de direccion, segun una investigacion sobre ejecutivas en Latinoamerica. El objetivo fundamental fue examinar variables de tipo pais, institucional e individual, que permitieran describir una muestra de ejecutivas y asi dar luces sobre lo que hace particulares a las colombianas que ocupan altos cargos directivos. Se llevo a cabo un estudio exploratorio, cualitativo (29 entrevistas semiestructuradas) y cuantitativo (69 encuestas electronicas), para describir la trayectoria profesional de una muestra de altas ejecutivas colombianas de primer, segundo y tercer nivel. Se encontro que las participantes que habian ejercido un cargo en el primer nivel se caracterizaron por haber salido de colegio femenino y haber estudiado principalmente carreras como ingenieria, derecho y administracion; tener posgrado, predominantemente maestria; estar o haber estado casadas, y haber tenido hijos, razon por la cual consideraron de gran ayuda la colaboracion del servicio domestico. La mayoria ha alcanzado las mas altas posiciones de las organizaciones a traves de la trayectoria del area financiera o comercial y ha logrado ascender gracias a su desempeno destacado y a caracteristicas de su personalidad. Abstract: The following exploratory study illustrates the particular characteristics of a group of Colombian executives, since according to previous research, Colombia has been pointed out as the country with the highest percentage of women in upper management positions. The main purpose was to examine country, institutional and individual level variables that would enable us to describe a sample of executives and thus shed light on what makes our women executives’ particular. An exploratory study, qualitative (29 semi-structured interviews) and quantitative (69 electronic surveys) was carried out to describe the professional trajectory of this sample of Colombian women from the first, second and third organizational level. Results show that the women exerting a first level position had studied in an all girls school, were mainly engineers, lawyers and business majors, had carried out graduate studies, mainly at the master’s level, were married or had been married, had children and mentioned that household help had contributed to their career. Most of them had reached upper management positions through the financial or commercial track and had managed to climb the ladder due to their outstanding performance and their personality traits.
