La perspectiva de genero suele entenderse como sinonimo de estudios sobre la mujer, pero actualmente en estos estudios se incluye tambien al hombre, incorporandose al tema otras formas de vivir la masculinidad. Por ejemplo, a traves de la paternidad, rol en el cual algunos hombres se sienten discriminados ante la tendencia, en la practica judicial y administrativa, de otorgar la custodia de los hijos preferentemente a la madre, en caso de divorcio o separacion de los padres, sin otra consideracion de que el rol y el derecho natural de ella es el cuidado de los hijos. Hoy, movimientos colectivos como el feminismo y el movimiento de padres separados de sus hijos, impulsan la custodia compartida como un reconocimiento a la igualdad entre los sexos.
