The indigenous tradition, the pertinence of the Amazonian catchment basin and proximity to an important urban centre like Leticia in Colombia are elements characterising Ciudad Jitoma' s production system; such factors distinguish it from other forms of indigenous and non-indigenous production found in the same Amazonian region. This community' s production system is illustrated in the present study by observing the elements making up its interrelationships. The Chagras' agroforestal system is identified as being the basis of the community' s production activities; each stage of this production cycle is described. Other elements in the production system are commented on as is their importance as additional sources of income for indigenous families.
