Objective : The purpose of the study is to describe the experience of pregnant women residing in a city of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil)who received low-risk prenatal care as part of a nursing initiative to deploy a family health strategy based on interaction and strengtheningthe bond between pregnant women and the service. Method: It is a qualitative initiative designed to develop activities involving homevisits to pregnant women, health education on the gestational period, newborn care, and the organization of a pregnant women’s group.Results: This experiment demonstrates that including a health service in a community is accomplished only by forming bonds in which theconnection with people strengthens not only the autonomy of the beneficiaries, but also the entire health team. Conclusion : The experienceswith the team and the population expanded the view on the importance of nurses in managing health care services and in promotingeducational and health-care actions for women in the pregnancy-puerperium cycle.
