One hundred patients suffering from symptomatic Intestinal amebiasis were studied and treated with secnidazole. Fifty seven patients were acute non dysenteric cases and forty three patients were acute dysenteric cases. They were treated with a single dose of 2 gm. of secnidazole. clinical and parasitological evaluations were performed at days 5 and 21. The first evaluation revealed 83% clinical cure and 88% parasitological negativization. The second evaluation showed a cure rate of 75%for both clinical and parasitological parameters. Tolerance was good and no toxic reactions were observed.
