El objetivo del estudio fue determinar el efecto de la lectura oral de cuentos infantiles sobre el desarrollo de nociones de la letra impresa y comportamientos lectores en ninos de preescolar de una escuela de Pasto, Colombia. El metodo incluyo tipos y tecnicas de investigacion cuantitativa y cualitativa con dos grupos: uno experimental y otro de control, cada uno con 6 ninos de 5 y 6 anos de edad. Los resultados indicaron que los comportamientos lectores que mas se evidenciaron en el grupo experimental fueron: nocion de cuento y manejo de las partes del libro. Tambien, se observo el desarrollo de varios comportamientos lectores en la mayor parte de ninos. A su vez, los ninos del grupo de control unicamente demostraron mejoramiento en la identificacion de letras y palabras, asi como de las letras mayusculas. Finalmente, las pruebas sobre conciencia de la letra impresa del ambiente tuvieron resultados similares no significativos en el pre-test y en el posttest para los dos grupos. ABSTRACT The objective of the study was to determine the effect of reading children’s stories in relation to the development of concepts concerning the printed word, and reading behaviors, on preschool children from a school in Pasto, Colombia. The method included types and techniques of quantitative and qualitative research within two groups: one experimental and one control group. Each of the groups consisted of 6 children between the ages of 5 and 6 years old. The results indicated that the reading behaviors most apparent in the experimental group was: the notion of the story and the handling of the parts of the book. Also, the development of several reading behaviors was observed in the majority of the children. At the same time, children in the control group only showed improvement in the identification of letters and words, as well as capital letters. Finally, evidence concerning awareness of the printed word in the environment had similar non-significant results in the pre-test and post-test results of the two groups.
