SUMMARY This article focuses on the constitutional referendums of the five Andean countries, defined as Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. The first part describes the six constitutional referendums held in the region. In the second, it shows that these events were not an expression of “unlimited power”, emphasizing both in their function and their limits. The conclusions summarize showing the tension between democracy and liberalism, as a way to understand redundant legitimacies.
