Mixtures of variants derived from genetic segregation of light green or dark green spike and erect or nodding spike traits barley UNAGRO V-PM6 variety and PM10 line were evaluated for rusts and other prevalent diseases perfomance, yield and components, and malt quality parameter sunch as extraet, protein and diastatic power. The original population of UNAGRO v- PM6 was composed of 7% of ligth green and 93 % of dark green spikes. PM10 line of 51 % of light green, 24.5%of dark green erect and 20.3% of dark green nodding. The experiment was conducted al the Marengo Research Experiment Station located near Bogota, during the second semester of 1989 and first semester of 1990. Four mixtures with ratios 20:80, 40:60, 60:40 and 80:20 for light green: dark green spikes were used in UNAGRO V-PM6 variety. Twelve mixtures correspondent to different combinations of ratios 0:25:50:75 among the three variants ligth green, dark green erect and dark green nodding spikes were used in PM10 line. The results showed that there were no effects of the variant mixtures over yield and their components and the performance to diseases with respect to original variety and line. In general, all mixtures showed equal or better performance than UNAGRO V-PM6 variety and PM10 line. In relation to malt quality parameters, the four mixtures were statistically higher in extract % and diastatic power (potential amylasa in E.U.M.) than the original UNAGRO V-PM6 (79% extract and 520 U.E.M.) variety and the comercial control 124 and Mochaca varieties. The better mixture was the ratio 80% light green: 20% dark green spikes with 84% extraet and 614 U.E.M. The mixtures with 50 and 75 rates of light green eomplemented with 50 and 25 rates of dark green erect spikes showed to be higher in diastatic power (626 .and 658 (U. E.M.) and percent extraet (81.6 and 81.4% ) than the original line PM10 (80.2% extract and 599 U.E.M.) and the eommercial control 124 and Mochaca varieties. The porcentage of protein did not show variation for mixtures and original variety and line and all were with in the industrial requeriments ranges.
