This study -“El Comercio y el Correo en el Sur, durante los anos de la Independencia”, (“Southern Trade and Mail Services During the Years of the Independence Fight”)- addresses a particular perspective regarding the war; that is to say the daily life, specifically in terms of jobs, trade, means of transportation, personal mail services, letters whose topics were related to love and family affairs, luggage carrying gold or small coffers containing hair for reliquaries. A key aspect of this study is related to the products people were trading at that time, how was implemented the system of commerce taxes, and examining evidences why only people considered honest and sympathizers of the republican regimen were able to carry out personal post office services. Main sources to study the aforementioned historical period included the Archivo Central del Cauca and Archivo Nacional de Historia de Ecuador.
