Laboratory tests were used to evaluate the effect on the mechanical properties of two hot asphalt mix (M19 and M12 as per INVEAS, 2004 specifications) due to the addition by humid way of a residue of vinyl polychloride, from Mexichem Resinas S.A. (Colombia). The strength under monotonic load, resilient modulus and rutting were evaluated. Asphalt cement (AC) A20 was used from Venezuela. The results show that mechanical properties evaluated were higher for the mixtures modified with PVC compared with mixtures with asphalts without additives. Additionally, characterization tests were conducted on the asphalt cement by additive and without. The PVC produces higher penetration resistance and viscosity, and lower thermal flow susceptibility.
