La concepcion de la enfermedad mental no ha sido un significante incolume en la cultura. Por el contrario, un seguimiento en diversos contextos historicos la muestra rodeada de otros significantes como locura, vagabundo, encierro, correccion, sanacion, etcetera. No fue sino hasta la llegada de la nocion de salud mental que otros significantes como los de inclusion social y reconocimiento de derechos como ser humano aparecieron. Podria pensarse entonces que la concepcion de la enfermedad mental ha mutado de acuerdo a un espacio-tiempo especifico marcado asi mismo por otros hechos especificos, y que tambien ha estado sujeta a un Discurso que deviene del Otro. Estas reflexiones apuntan a que la enfermedad mental puede descansar en una angustia, signo de deseo: una angustia ante la falta. Todo esto en la medida en que aun estan los sujetos sin razon, y que las medidas interventivas, normativas y legislativas resultan no ser los suficientemente efectivas de cara al denominado enfermo mental. De esta manera van dejando en el Otro -porque no- un vacio, algo que se escapa, algo que le falta. Lo cual lleva consigo la instauracion de otros significantes que permitan otra concepcion de lo que es enfermedad mental y salud mental. ABSTRACT The conception of the mental illness has not been a significant unscathed in the culture. On the contrary, a follow-up in various historical contexts the sample surrounded by other significant as madness, vagabond, confinement, correction, healing, and so on.
