This article presents a synthesis of evidence of early man in Colombia, particulary in the Bogota plateau, 2,600 m above cea level. While others appear to have moved on to various other sites. Evidence has been found of hunter-gatherers at the end of the Pleistocene. About the thousand years before the present time, archaeological fossil indexes show an increase in the activities of gatherers in the Andean forests; this form of subsistence, and the observance of cycles corresponding to regional vegetation variations, are the factors which led, from 5,000 years BP, to the adoption of new subsistence patterns, adaptation mechanisms and stable sottlements. Traces of pottery associated with farming communities have been identif ied in the Savannah of Bogota dating from 3,000 BP. The cultural sequence in the Pleistocene and early and mid-Holocene were determined in this manner. Recent discoveries in the Orinoco region of Columbia (Guayabero River) also open new perspectives on antiquity and the migrations of early man in Colombia. Los sedimentos lacustres depositados en esta area de la cordillera oriental, han hecho posible reconstrucciones del clima y vegetacion basados en es tudios palinologicos (Van der Hammen: 1974, Van der Hammen & Gonzalez: 1960, Van der Hammen & Van Dommelen, 1973). Estos factores han incidido en que la mayor information sobre el pobla miento temprano de cazadores y recolectores de Colombia provenga de esta region del pafs, en donde se han podido integrar datos de diferentes discipli nas para lograr una vision muy completa sobre el medio ambiente en el cual interactuo este hombre antiguo en su devenir historico. De otras regiones se tienen algunos datos relevantes que permiten sugerir rutas de migration, habitats favorables para la habitation humana, ricos en plantas, frutos para recoleccion, asi como en recursos de fauna. A continuation se reune de forma sumaria las evidencias que en Colombia son testimonio de esta epoca temprana; epoca en la cual algunos grupos humanos se asentaron en nuestro territorio, mientras que otros pudieron desplazarse en varias direcciones.
