This investigation wants to answer the question about which where the attributed functions of literacy in relation to the transformation of the peasant in Accion Cultural Popular project_ It examines how certain concepts of literacy, peasant and citizenship were stabilized through the discourses that circulated in the weekly newspaper called El Campesino , where a massive literacy campaign took place_ It studies the relationship, as seen on discourses, between literacy and Christianity, land reform and peasant access to citizenship_ Two main themes in this research are the use of Christian rhetoric and the relationship between truth and written word_ This work argues that literacy was conceived as the mean for peasant transformation that was required, both for ACPO and Colombian leaders, in order to integrate him to the market and to the nation as a stable producer and consumer_ Central concepts are: governmentality , subjectivity and discourse_ This research focuses on the period between 1958 and 1962_
